About the Role

Due to continued growth and expansion, MSL Heat Treatment are currently recruiting for a Workshop Technician to join their established team.

Generally speaking, any process that applies heat to material can be classed as heat treatment, whether that is part of the treatment of metals, wood, ceramics, composites, etc. MSL Heat Treatment specialise in the Vacuum Heat Treatment and Vacuum Brazing of metals including steels, copper alloys, nickel alloys, and many more materials that can benefit from vacuum furnace treatment.

Operating from our plant just outside Gatwick, we are ideally placed to serve local and national demand for vacuum heat treatment and brazing processes.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Unpacking, packing and checking orders
  • Document/photograph incoming parts for inspection
  • Main duties involve loading and unloading furnace batches
  • Ensuring the correct procedures are followed during loading of the furnaces
  • Assisting colleagues in daily workload requirements, ensuring order deadlines are met
  • Operate furnaces workshop equipment, ensuring compliance to safety standards
  • Preparation of parts for vacuum brazing
  • Taking deliveries to customers

Skills

Full on-site training will be provided in addition to specific external training to cover the following skills:
  • Heat treatment principles
  • Basic metallurgy
  • Vacuum brazing principles and techniques
  • Principles of vacuum technology
  • Vacuum furnace operation
The ability to work in a small team and the flexibility to handle a wide range of varying tasks is essential

Qualifications & Experience

  • Some experience with vacuum/ gas fired furnaces in a production environment would be advantageous
  • Experience in reading and working from engineering drawings would be useful
  • You must be a team player, keen to learn and be able to work to tight deadlines liaising with colleagues
  • This is a hands-on role so you must be capable of loading, unloading and being on your feet all day
  • Ability to follow instructions
  • Attention to detail
  • Minimum of C grades in GCSE English and Mathematics
  • Further education and qualifications in Science/Engineering desirable
  • Full clean driving licence

Preferred

  • Any past experience in heat treatment or engineering would be an advantage but is not essential
  • Manufacturing experience ideal but not essential
  • Vacuum Furnace experience ideal but not essential
